Once the eggs hatch, she will get hundreds of chickens from them. She will then sell those chickens at higher rates and buy herself beautiful silk dresses. Her beauty will bring a proposal from the country’s prince for marriage. Suddenly, the milk bottles fell, and the milk got spilled. All her dreams shattered after that, and she came back home disheartened.

But they got irritated when they learned that it was a false alarm. This happened for the first three times. From the fourth time onwards, the villages started to ignore the call of the shepherd boy. One day, a real wolf pack came to threaten the flock. Then, the shepherd boy called out for help, but no one came to their rescue.

The Dog and the Bone

more bones. He became greedy and thought that if he could get those bones, too, he would have lots to eat. Due to its excitement, the dog opened its mouth, and the bones fell into the water. The dog became extremely sad, walked off the bridge without bones, and lost everything. 

Moral lesson: In this fable, it is taught that greed can ruin one’s happiness. One should appreciate what he already has. The lesson also imparted is that one can be happy without jealousy or greed.

The Farmer and the Snake

A thousand years back, a farmer was walking through the woods. There, he found a frozen snake. He felt pity for the snake and decided to make it cozy. He then placed the snake on his chest to make it warm. When the snake felt better and revived, it bit him. The farmer started to feel dizzy due to the high dose of poison from the snake. The farmer was slowly nearing his last moment. He then asked the snake why it had poisoned him when he saved the snake. The snake replied coolly and said it is the snake’s nature to bite others.  

Moral lesson: The story teaches that one must not trust others without knowing their nature. When a wrong person is trusted, he can be cheated without warning. The fable also teaches that an individual’s fundamental nature is not changeable even though we show kindness to them.

There was an elephant who lived in a temple in a small village. Everyone in the town loved the elephant very much. Each evening, the elephant used to go for bathing in a pond near to

The temple. When he used to go for bathing, he greeted a tailor on his way. The tailor offered the elephant one banana every day. One fine morning, the tailor was in a bad mood and pricked a needle into the elephant instead of providing the banana. The hurt elephant collected dirty water the next day and sprinkled it on the tailor’s newly ironed and stitched clothes. The tailor then apologized to the elephant and promised never to hurt him.  

Moral lesson: The moral of this story is that we get what we give to others. “Tit for tat” is the perfect lesson of this story. An individual should not hurt others when he does not want to be hurt. Thus, it is important to respect one and all.

I remember this was 5th chapter on the moral science subject during my school days when I was the first standard. This story was one of my favorite moral stories with pictures then.

The two Crabs

Once upon a time, two crabs were walking along the seashore. While walking, one started to criticize the other for how he walked.

The criticized crab then asks the other one whether he can walk straighter. After some time, they suddenly faced an obstacle. The crab who was criticizing fell into a pit. However, despite facing criticism, the other crab rescued the lost one. After the incident, both were relieved and valued each other’s unique qualities.

Moral lesson: This story teaches that everyone has some unique quality, which we must learn to appreciate without skepticism. Next, when the sun’s turn came, he radiated warm rays towards the pedestrian. Then, feeling warm, the pedestrian was compelled to remove his cloak.

Moral lesson: The moral that this story teaches us is that kindness never fails anyone. Aggression and force cannot help someone to achieve something every time. We need to be more understanding towards others so that we can be persuaded. In life, we need to remember that what force cannot achieve our gentle, consistent, and persuasive effort helps in obtaining that goal.

The Gnat and the Bull

One day, a small gnat thought of challenging a big bull to showcase his courage and strength. On seeing that, the bull laughed at the audacity of the gnat, thereby dismissing the gnat’s challenge. However, the gnat started to sting the bull continuously. Even though the bull was large and powerful, it could not retaliate against the gnat despite several attempts.

Moral lesson: According to this fable, resourcefulness and the power of determination are important to get what we want in life. Even a weak and small individual can make his way in life if he stays determined. Adversity is the other name of life.

Sand and Rock (Stone)

A long time ago, two friends, James and John, were best friends. Even though they always fought with one another and disagreed on many things, they never stayed away from one another. They went to many cities in search of a job. They even supported each other there. One day, they went to a barren land, a desert. After walking mile after mile, they hardly found any food or water. John wanted some reserved water, but James said they should save it. Thirst made John slap James over a fight. Then James wrote that on the sands. Later, they found an oasis and decided to bathe and have fun there. However, James becomes careless and starts to drown, but John saves him. This time, James wrote on a stone that John saved his life.

Moral lesson: The story teaches that only the good things should be remembered and close ones must be forgiven for their small mistakes because, in the end, good friendship matters the most. The rock here represents the permanency of the good thing, while the sand is the temporary disappointments or hurt we get from our loved ones.

The charcoal Makers and the Cloth Cleaner

Once upon a time, a cloth cleaner and a charcoal maker argued about who would be engaged in a more significant job. First, the charcoal maker said that his work is more important because, without him, it would not have been possible for people to get fuel for their cooking. He also helps people to feel warm during the winter. On the other hand, the cloth cleaners said that without his efforts, fellow citizens would be unable to maintain their hygiene, which positively helps their health. To settle this dispute, a wise man came to them. Then the man said he would not declare a clear winner because both have something to contribute to society. Therefore, they should understand their unique societal roles and contribute likewise by working in harmony.

Moral lesson: The moral of this story is that even though we contribute sufficiently to society, we should never undermine others’ roles. Hence, everyone is equally important in a community or society.

The Three Fishes Story

A long, long time ago, three fishes used to live in a pond. They were very good friends. One was foolish, while the other was intelligent and wise, respectively. Slowly, the pond started to dry up. For instance, Thomas used this method to measure success in terms of financial power and wealth accumulation. Emily mostly valued her relationships and love above everything. She engaged in artistic pursuits and various connections she made with others.

On the other hand, Michael was focused on his business profession and started getting success. All three characters faced ups and downs on their way to success. These experiences helped them understand what matters in life. Thomas learned that money alone can’t fix everything — good relationships also matter. Four friends were a deer, a mouse, a tortoise, and a crow. They used to live in a jungle. One day, they saw a hunter trying to trap them by laying a net.
